UNC Charlotte's dining services partner Chartwells has been named a 2012 Corporate Champion by Goodwill of the Southern Piedmont. The company will be recognized at Goodwill's Cornerstone Awards ceremony.
According to Goodwill officials, this honor is “given to a company that has demonstrated a passionate commitment to helping people who are facing barriers to employment to become independent and productive through the power of work.”
Chartwells, a division of Charlotte-based Compass Group, North America, works with Goodwill of the Southern Piedmont to offer employment opportunities to persons with disabilities or persons that have coped with other employment obstacles.
According to Gina Capetanakis, marketing manager for Chartwells at UNC Charlotte, since 2008 more than 35 individuals have been employed by Chartwells at UNC Charlotte with the assistance of Goodwill's vocational coaching service. Through this program, individuals are provided assistance by a Goodwill job coach on site until they are fully trained in their new positions.
This past fall, Chartwells' partnership with Goodwill was highlighted as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month in a number of media outlets, including WCNC and Fox Charlotte.
