According to Paula Gross, assistant director of the gardens, plant lovers can expect a wide selection of native plants and exotic botanicals - wildflowers, trees and shrubs, perennials, carnivorous plants, orchids and indoor plants.

Learn how to create a natural branch trellis

On Saturday, March 10, find out how to create a natural branch trellis in a once-a-year workshop sponsored by the Botanical Gardens.

On Saturday, March 10, find out how to create a natural branch trellis in a once-a-year workshop sponsored by the Botanical Gardens.

Instructor Meredith Hebden will demonstrate the technique of crafting a trellis from rhododendron branches. Participants will construct their own trellis/vine support; the size could range from two to five feet. Materials will be provided; attendees should wear comfortable clothing.

Paula Gross, assistant director of the gardens, notes that hardy shrubs, perennials, wildflowers, ferns and cool weather annuals start out best when planted in October. All of these and more will be on sale at the McMillan Greenhouse. Experts will be on hand to answers questions, too.

McMillan Greenhouse to sponsor trellis workshop

Summary: 

Meredith Hebden will conduct a workshop on building a natural wood trellis from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 12, in the McMillan Greenhouse.

Meredith Hebden will conduct a workshop on building a natural wood trellis from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 12, in the McMillan Greenhouse.  Hebden will teach participants how to create an artistic, organic, functional trellis from natural rhododendron wood (prunings are from the Landingham Glen). Materials will be provided to create a large trellis or two small trellises.  The cost to participate is $35, which includes all materials.  To register, e-mail Paula Gross at pmgross@uncc.edu or call ext. 7-2555.
