Randy Duncan, director of materials management, and Scott Brechtel, a senior buyer in materials management, were part of a recent presentation to the N.C. House Select Committee on E-Procurement.
Duncan and Brechtel, along with Martha Pendergrass from UNC-Chapel Hill, were selected by Ken Craig, associate vice president for university business operations and shared services for UNC General Administration, to brief committee members on the use of SciQuest’s e-Procurement system.
“It was an honor to participate in this committee presentation,” said Duncan. “UNC Charlotte is a leader in business innovation, and to be selected to brief the committee on our experiences with the e-Procurement system is a testament to the excellent work of the implementation team and the acceptance of 49er Mart by the entire campus community as well as the foresight of the University’s leadership in supporting this e-Procurement initiative.”
Brechtel, who conducted a demonstration of the e-Procurement’s product selection capabilities from various vendors, said it was an enlightening experience to see the General Assembly in action. “They (committee members) showed a genuine interest in how we operate, posed insightful questions and appeared very pleased with the requisition approval process we have implemented, as well as our ability to track historical purchases.”
UNC General Administration’s Craig praised Duncan and Brechtel’s participation. He said the duo “provided an excellent demonstration of UNC Charlotte’s successful implementation of SciQuest.”
The SciQuest e-Procurement System enables UNC Charlotte to analyze its spending and better negotiate pricing, expand contracts and to electronically enable manual processes, Craig noted. “UNC Charlotte has been instrumental in advising the UNC Finance Improvement and Transformation E-Procurement Initiative to expand the utilization of SciQuest and to maximize savings and efficiencies.”
