Four faculty members from the College of Education were honored recently during the college’s 2012 awards presentation.

Chuang Wang from the Department of Educational Leadership received the Award for Excellence in Teaching. Established in 1994 with funding from the UNC General Administration, the award recognizes innovative, committed and effective teaching within the college. Adriana Medina, reading and elementary education, presented the award.

Meredith DiPietro, assistant professor of instructional systems technology in the College of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership, was selected recently to serve on the National Council on Digital Citizenship (NCDC).

Fred Spooner, a faculty member in the College of Education’s Department of Special Education and Child Development, will receive the 2012 TED/Pearson Award for Excellence in Education.

Graduate programs in the College of Education are among the top 100 in the country, according to the latest rankings by the U.S. News Media Group.

Mary Lynne Calhoun, dean of the college, noted, “Our College of Education is committed not only to the preparation of outstanding educators but also to the generation of research that addresses pressing issues in schools and communities and which leads to improved outcomes.  The U.S. News recognition is a welcome affirmation of our efforts and our commitments.”

“Nurturing What’s Natural: Using the Individuality of Children to Link Learning and Life” is the theme for the 33rd annual Child and Family Development Conference scheduled for Thursday, March 22, in the Cone University Center.
