Frans B. M. de Waal, behavioral biologist and author, will present “Morality Without Religion: Empathy, Fairness and Prosocial Primates” at 7 p.m., Monday, April 23, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall, for the 28th annual Loy H. Witherspoon Lecture in Religious Studies.

Andrew Hartley, Robinson Professor of Shakespeare Studies, provided comments for the Charlotte Observer story “Charlotte author goes through the looking glass.”

Karen Cox, associate professor of history, recently attended a special dinner at the Executive Mansion to honor noted North Carolina authors.

Gov. Beverly Perdue and her husband Robert Eaves Jr. hosted the dinner and invited attendees, which included historians, novelists and poets currently living and working in North Carolina.

Debbie Silver, award-winning educator and author, will speak at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 28, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.

Silver is author of “Drumming to the Beat of Different Marchers: Finding the Rhythm for Teaching Differentiated Learning.” She has more than 30 years experience as a classroom teacher, staff development instructor and university professor. Her numerous recognitions include Louisiana State Teacher of the Year.

Jacqueline Novogratz, author of "The Blue Sweater," this year’s Common Reading Experience selection, will be on campus Thursday, Oct. 21. Her keynote lecture will be at 7 p.m. in the Student Union, Multipurpose Room. Instructors using the book in their classes may nominate two students to attend a smaller discussion group with the author that day.
