Commencement is a ceremony that traditionally marks the conclusion of one’s academic life, but this event also represents a beginning. Whether graduates continue onto advanced studies, enter the workforce or just start the rest of their lives, it is definitely an occasion to celebrate.

For UNC Charlotte, this year marks a unique milestone as the University will recognize its 100,000th alumnus during ceremonies on Saturday, May 12. To help celebrate, past alumni association presidents will be on hand, along with a member of the Class of 1965, the first graduating class following the University's designation as the fourth member of the statewide system.

Nearly 3,500 students, along with family, friends and others, also will gather for the 2012 spring commencement, being held in two ceremonies in Halton Arena, located in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

Earlier this year, the Information Technology Services Office alerted the campus to a possible data exposure via the Internet. After a comprehensive investigation by a leading forensics and investigations firm, the University recently announced that financial account numbers and approximately 350,000 Social Security numbers were part of the exposed data. This exposure has been resolved, and the University is alerting those who may have been affected.
